Arcane Recovery (1/day). Once per day when they finish a short rest, the initiate can choose expended spell slots to recover - up to a combined level of 3.

Potent Cantrip. When a creature succeeds on a saving throw against the wizard's cantrip, the creature takes half the cantrip’s damage (if any) but suffers no additional effect from the cantrip.

Ritual Spellcaster. The wizard can cast the following spells as rituals, without expending spell slots:
1st level: alarm, comprehend languages, find familiaridentifyTenser's floating disk
2nd level: augury
3rd level: Leomund's tiny hutphantom steed

Sculpt Spells. When the wizard casts an evocation spell that affects other creatures that the wizard can see, the wizard can choose a number of them equal to 1 + the spell’s level. The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell, and they take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save.

Spellcasting. The wizard is a 6th-level spellcaster. Their spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 15, +7 to hit with spell attacks). The wizard has the following wizard spells prepared:
Cantrips (at will): fire bolt, light, mage hand, mind sliver, minor illusion, prestidigitation
1st level (4 slots): feather fall, mage armor, magic missile, shield
2nd level (3 slots): invisibility, knock, misty step
3rd level (3 slots): counterspell, dispel magic, fireball

Actions

Dagger. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage.

Description

Mages spend their lives in the study and practice of magic. Once a wizard passes beyond the initiate stage, they are a dangerous and powerful force in their own right.

DM Note: The Wizard is loosely based on a 6th-level evocation wizard. They are designed to be used as either a DMPC/sidekick or an enemy and provide a mid-level progression step between apprentice wizard (1st-level caster) and mage (9th-level caster), although D&D's official mage does not seem to look much like a 9th-level PC....
