Description
Mages spend their lives in the study and practice of magic. The magic initiate has studied magic, toiled as an apprentice, and learned much... but they are not quite as powerful as their teachers, yet. Out of a sense of self-preservation, many mages hesitate to teach their students the most powerful combat incantations like fireball or mage armor.
DM Note: The Initiate Wizard is loosely based on a 3rd-level evocation wizard. They are designed to be used as either a DMPC/sidekick or an enemy and provide a low-end progression step between apprentice wizard (1st-level caster) and mage (9th-level caster), although D&D's official mage does not seem to look much like a 9th-level PC....
