Traits

For Want of Flight.  When it falls, the Aperaven's feathers help slow its fall, and its powerful arms help catch it upon landing.  For the purposes of fall damage, the Aperaven reduces any distance it falls by 40 feet, unless it is incapacitated.

Mimicry. The Aperaven can mimic simple sounds it has heard, such as a person whispering, a baby crying, or an animal chittering.  A creature that hears the sounds can tell they are imitations with a successful DC 14 Wisdom (Insight) check.

Actions

Multiattack. The Aperaven makes two attacks: one with its beak and one with its fist, or it makes two attacks with its fists.

Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 18 (2d12 + 5) piercing damage.

Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., 1 target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) bludgeoning damage.

Description

Curious, territorial, intelligent.  A cross between a raven and a gorilla, aperavens typically live and travel in small family groups.  They do make use of crude tools, but their great strength prevents them from seeing the need for weaponry.

It is unclear whether their creation was incidental or intentional, though anyone serious about such things concludes that magic must have been involved.

Aperavens tend to be especially friendly towards Kenku, and Kenku druids that live in the wild near a family of Aperavens might find themselves "adopted" by the clan.

For the purposes of communication, any spell or ability that grants the ability to speak with beasts, animals, or birds will allow communication with Aperavens, and one who does so will find them to be unusually intelligent and observant.

Aperavens use their talent for mimicry to lure prey (by imitating the sounds of their prey's prey or their prey's young in distress) into ambushes, and to scare away threats (by imitating the sounds of more dangerous monsters or making it sound like the aperavens--or whatever they are imitating--are in much greater numbers than they have in truth).
