Traits

Brave. The watchknight has advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Oath of the Watchers. As a devout follower of The Vigilant One, the watchknight remains always vigilant against any potential threats to the realms. The watchknight cannot be surprised and has a +5 bonus to its passive Wisdom (Perception).

Watchknight's Helm. The watchknight's helmet grants magical darkvision up to 60 feet and immunity to being magically blinded. Once per dawn, the watchknight can activate one of the two blessings placed upon the helm, granting themself the effect of see invisibility or detect evil and good without the need for concentration. The blessings of this helm can only be used by devout followers of Helm.

Actions

Multiattack. The watchknight makes two attacks.

Warhammer. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. When not wearing a shield, this attack does 8 (1d10 + 3) bludgeoning damage.

Leadership (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). For 1 minute, the watchknight can utter a special command or warning whenever a nonhostile creature that it can see within 30 feet of it makes an attack roll or a saving throw. The creature can add a d4 to its roll provided it can hear and understand the watchknight. A creature can benefit from only one Leadership die at a time. This effect ends if the watchknight is incapacitated.

Bonus Actions

Divine Eminence (3/day). As a bonus action, the watchknight can cause one of their melee weapon attacks to deal an extra 4 (1d8) radiant damage to a target on a hit.

Reactions

Defend. The watchknight imposes disadvantage against one melee attack that would hit a creature within 5 feet of them. To do so, the watchknight must see the attacker and be wielding a melee weapon.

Description

Watchknights of the Order of the Gilded Eye are warriors who pledge service to the god Helm and act in his name to zealously seek out and destroy whatever they find to be a threat to the realms. This mostly concerns elementals, fey, fiends, or undead, who they often dispatch without hesitation.

They serve under the founder of their order, Paladin of Helm and High Commander of the Gilded Eye, Javen Tarmikos, and Holy Watcher of Helm and Head Priest of the Grand Cathedral of Helm, Qerria Tarmikos.

The Order of the Gilded Eye branched off from the Order of the Gauntlet sometime in the late 1480's DR, due to Javen's disagreement on the Gauntlet's more passive policy of 'innocent until proven guilty'.[1][2] The Gilded Eye believes all "evils" should be destroyed before they can grow to become a threat. This is somewhat contrary to the ancient teachings of the Helmite religion, but the validity of the new policy is backed by the divine spells and abilities granted to them, presumably by Helm, who is believed to have recently revived in 1486 DR, after his death in 1384 DR.[2]

The Watchknight's Helm can normally only be used by a devout Helmite, however, a creature can attempt to unwind this restriction if they are familiar with magic item creation and enchantment. To do so, a creature must make both a DC 13 Intelligence (Arcana) and a DC 15 Intelligence (Religion) ability check. If the creature succeeds on both, the item can be used by any humanoid of the same size class as the helmet's previous owner. If the creature succeeds on only one of the ability checks, the item can be used by any lawful creature of the same size class, and the helm's magic can no longer be tampered with. If the creature fails both ability checks, the Watchknight's Helm is destroyed.
