Traits

Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the zombie to 0 hit
points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC
of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or
from a critical hit. On a success, the zombie drops to 1 hit
point in stead.

Living Shadow. While in dim light or darkness,
the dragon has resistance to damage that isn't force,
psychic, or radiant.

Shadow Stealth. While in dim light or darkness, the
dragon can take the Hide action as a bonus action.

Sunlight Sensitivity. While in sunlight, the dragon
has disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom
(Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the dragon fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Actions

Multiattack. The dragon is slower due to being a zombie and can make two attacks: one with its bite and one with a claw.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +17 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (2d10 + 10) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) necrotic damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +17 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d6 + 10) slashing damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +17 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (2d8 + 10) bludgeoning damage.

Shadow Breath (Recharge 5-6). The dragon exhales shadowy fire in a 90 -foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 24 Dexterity saving throw, taking 52 (13d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. A humanoid reduced to 0 hit points by this damage dies, and an undead shadow rises from its corpse and acts immediately after the dragon in the initiative count. The
shadow is under the dragon 's control.

Legendary Actions

The dragon can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Tail Attack. The dragon makes a tail attack.

Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions). The dragon beats its wings. Each creature within 15 feet of the dragon must succeed on a DC 25 Dexterity saving throw or take 17 (2d6 + 10) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The dragon can then fly up to half its flying speed.

Description

History
Haerinvureem (Shimmergloom) was the last shadow dragon to survive the rebellion against the shadow dragons of the Jaezred Clan, who enslaved and conquered the drow city Chaulssin in -221 DR. After centuries the dragons were overthrown by their  offspring and all but Shimmergloom were killed in 634 DR.

Shimmergloom in Mithral Hall
Shimmergloom forced the mountain dwarves of Mithral Hall from their home in the 1100's DR. The dwarves solemnly relocated to the Icewind Dale region while Shimmbergloom supplanted them with his own Duergar servants from the Underdark. Shimmergloom reigned over the hall until 1356 DR when Bruenor Battlehammer, the rightful heir to the throne of Mithral Hall, returned in order to take back his homeland. Shimmergloom attempted to retain his ownership and control of the hall with help from his slaves including two shadow mastiffs. He was eventually slain by Bruenor after the dwarf strapped a barrel of flaming oil to his back and jumped on to the shadow dragon's back. The ensuing flames destroyed Shimmergloom while Bruenor was spared by Drizzt's enchanted scimitar Icingdeath.

Resurrection

In 1356 DR after the death of Shimmergloom, Acererak the demi-lich took note of the death of this impressive being and rushed through the multi-verse to Toril in hopes to restore the shadow dragon for his own uses. Failing multiple times to turn the shadow dragon into a dracolich, Acererak finally turned the beast into a weakened version of itself as a zombie, forced to do Acererak's bidding for all time. Although slowed and weakened, Shimmergloom still held on to much of his power.

Lair and Lair Actions

The zombie remnant of Shimmergloom follows Acererak wherever he may go, protecting him, and watching for those that may try to do him harm.
