Traits

Elemental Adaptation. The Avatar stores the energy of the last two attacks that inflicted either fire, cold, lightning, acid, or thunder damage to it. Until a third elemental damage type is inflicted to it, the Avatar is immune to those two damage types. It then replaces the first type with the new third type, becoming the new second type.

Divine Construct. The Avatar's attacks are considered magical for the purpose of calculating resistance.

Actions

Multiattack. The Avatar makes either two slam attacks or two elemental orb attacks.

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +15 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 34 (5d8 + 9) bludgeoning damage.

Elemental Orb. Ranged Weapon Attack: +15 to hit, range 150/500 ft., one target. Hit: 29 (5d6 + 9) fire, lightning, acid, cold, or radiant damage.

Eruption. Recharge 6: The Avatar discharges the volcanic energy stored within. All creatures within a 200ft cone of the Avatar must succeed on a DC23 Dexterity Saving Throw or take 12d8 fire damage, half on a save. If a creature is behind full cover, then all damage is transferred to that cover until it is destroyed. The remaining damage is then inflicted on the player.

Legendary Actions

The Avatar of Gaia has 5 Legendary Action that it can use on other creature's turns.

Quake (Costs 3 Actions). The Avatar moves up to half of its speed. Creatures within a 50ft radius of the Avatar must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity Saving Throw or else be knocked prone. Prone creatures who fail this Saving Throw take 2d10 bludgeoning damage from the tremors formed by the steps of the Avatar.

Elemental Orb (Costs 1 Action). The Avatar makes one Elemental Orb attack.

Geyser (Costs 3 Actions). The Avatar channels the waters beneath its retreating foes. All creatures within a 20ft radius of a point within 100 feet of the Avatar must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity Saving Throw or be launched 40ft in the air and 30 feet towards the Avatar, taking fall damage as necessary.

Cacophony of Nature (Costs 5 Actions) 2/day. The Avatar cries out with the natural frequency of the world. Each creature within 300ft of the Avatar must succeed on a DC23 Constitution Saving Throw or take 3d10 psychic damage and suffer disadvantage on all attack rolls for one minute as the vibrations shake them to their core. Creatures take half damage and suffer no penalty on a save.

Description

The Avatar of Gaia is the gatekeeper of the greatest secrets of nature. Anyone wishing to access the most raw elemental power must first defeat its guardian.

The Avatar of Gaia stands 200ft tall and 60ft wide. Boulders are held together by swirling torrents of water or are glued together by active lava flows or root systems into a hulking humanoid shape. Trees have sprouted along its back as it slept, and bear the sweetest fruit. As it walks, the ground quakes. None should take this challenge lightly.

Lair and Lair Actions

Lair Actions

On initiative count 40 (losing initiative ties), the Avatar of Gaia takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the Avatar of Gaia can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • The Avatar summons 1d4 Awakened Trees and 2d6 Vine Blights from the ground within its lair.
  • The Avatar automatically recharges its Eruption ability

Regional Effects

The forest in which the Avatar slumbers is energized and healthy, creating the following effects:

  • Water drawn from lakes and rivers within 10mi of the Avatar heal 2d6hp.
  • Trees grow twice their normal size.
  •  Plants and animals are immune to disease and have resistance to necrotic damage.

If the Avatar of Gaia dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d20+6 days.
