Description
Aspis are a reclusive race of insectoid humanoids; they have been mistaken for relatives of the Thri-Kreen by many. Aspis workers and drones appear similar, with the main difference being their size. The body structure is similar to an ant, though the thorax and abdomen are similar in size. The creatures stand on two legs, well built for climbing, but limited in their jumping ability. Extending from the middle thorax and high shoulders are 4 long, multijointed arms, ending in a cluster of 4 claws. These claws are strong enough to dig and damage, yet capable of wielding weapons, tools and other objects. The body is topped off by a large head - shaped similar to a weevil, the wide set eyes and antenna give the Aspis excellent senses.
Aspis Drones are the warrior and defenders of this reclusive race. These creatures defend their underground hives, foraging and hunting the surface when necessary. The hives are rarely extensive or complex; Aspis communities look for defensibility and access to resources, digging and mining only when necessary. Aspis Drones will typically work with one or two others, as well as organizing any nearby workers into defensive formations; the more Aspis that can be drawn into a defensive swarm, the more dangerous they become.
Aspis communities will occasionally work with other humanoids - often encroachment forces these desperate alliances. The Aspis know once they begin living among other beings, their hive will eventually die off, and only do this to prevent the inevitable.
