Traits

Symbiotic. Kinsects pair with other creatures in symbiotic relationships. They remain relatively still on their hosts until directed to sources of food or energy, and then have the ability to draw essence from it's target, and share the effects with their host.

Actions

Leech Essence. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage. On a successful hit, the kinsect extracts some essence from the creature it hit and creates a cloud of powder that fills the 5 ft. space occupied by the kinsect. Any further attack made in or through this cloud causes the powder to ignite for an additional 1d4 fire damage to anything in the cloud. The cloud then dissipates.

Reactions

Essence Delivery. Immediately after landing a successful Leech Essence attack, the kinsect will use its reaction to disengage and return to it's host. Upon returning it gives this essence to its host, roll 1d4 and apply the following effect to the host based on the result:

  1. The host gains an additional 5 ft. movement for their next turn only.
  2. The host gains advantage on their next attack for the next turn only.
  3. The host gains advantage on STR and DEX saving throws until the end of their next turn only.
  4. The host recovers hit points equal to 1d4 + their CON modifier.

Description

Kinsect is a special equipment that PC Monster Hunters choosing to use a Glaive can wield. It gives the user bonuses such as more damage, faster movement and better defense. These insects latch onto their host's arm (or other appendage for non-humanoids), and remain there until directed otherwise. When attacking, they can sap essence from their target that they can return to their hosts for a small buff. If an host's kinsect is killed, a new kinsect will come to them over a long rest if they so desire.
