Shapechanger. The adze can use its action to polymorph into a Medium humanoid, or back into its true form. Its statistics, other than its size and speed, are unchanged. Anything it is wearing transforms with it, but nothing it is carrying does. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Spider Climb (True or Possessing form only). The adze can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
Flame Wreathed (Possessing form only). The adze sheds bright light in a 10 ft. radius, and dim light an additional 10 ft. Also, any creature within 5 ft. of the adze that hits it with a melee attack takes 5 fire damage.
Unarmed Strike (Humanoid or Possessing form only). Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage. Instead of dealing damage, the adze can grapple the target (escape DC 16).
Succ! (True or Possessing form only). Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 1 piercing damage plus 9 (3d6) necrotic damage. The target’s hit point maximum is reduced to however much health they have after taking the damage, and the adze regains hit points equal to the amount of necrotic damage dealt. The reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.
Possession (Recharge 6). One creature that the adze can see within 5 feet of it must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or be possessed by the adze; the adze then disappears, and the target is incapacitated and loses control of its body. The adze now controls the body but doesn't deprive the target of awareness. The adze can't be targeted by any attack, spell, or other effect, and it retains its alignment, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma. It otherwise uses the possessed target's statistics, except it gains a flying speed of 60 ft., and its Constitution and Dexterity modifiers increase by 2. These effects go away when the Adze stops possessing the creature.
Evade. If the adze is targeted with a melee attack, it can use its reaction to move up to half its speed away from the attacker without provoking an opportunity attack from its attacker, regardless of wether the attack hits or not.
Description
By-products of foul magic, an adze wants nothing more than to destroy anything that others find pretty. They resemble fireflies in their true form, but are capable of shape-shifting into that of an ordinary humanoid. They can also change other creature' forms by possessing them, twisting the creature's body to suit the adze's destructive needs.
