Death Throes. When the bat dies, it explodes, and each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on the bat must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 28 (8d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried.
Echolocation. The bat can't use its blindsight while deafened.
Keen Hearing. The bat has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +0 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 1 piercing damage.
Kamikaze. The bat reduces itself to 0 hit points, triggering its death throes trait.
Description
Bat bombs were an experimental weapon design to capitalize on bat roosting behaviors to cause widespread damage to an enemy state. The project was originally developed by artificers, who attached small incendiary devices, set to timers, to living bats. The bats would seek to roost shortly before dawn, making their way into the attics and awnings of nearby buildings. Some time after dawn, the timers of the incendiaries would go off, killing the bats and setting the buildings on fire.
At some point, wizards took over the project, and began to magically create bats that, rather than carry bombs, were living bombs themselves, resulting in these creatures.
