Description
The Amalgrim is an incorporeal entity of healing and protection magic brought to life. Although it mostly resides in the Astral Plane, it will occasionally show up on the Material Plane, manifesting itself as a bright pink energy. When one does come to the Material Plane, it comes searching for a corporeal form.
The Amalgrim sees the creatures living on the Material Plane and wants the form of life that they have. It will begin with finding a corpse and use it's magic to reanimate the body, heal the wounds, and take possession. As it experiences life on the Material Plane and meets new creatures, it grows a fondness for certain traits those creatures have. So, it will steal the body parts from them it covets moat and replace parts of it's body with those. The Amalgrim uses it's magic to keep those parts alive and integrated with the rest of it's form.
The Amalgrim will build a monstrous body over time, made of various parts from a host of different creatures. Every encounter with an Amalgrim will be slightly different, depending on which body parts it has acquired. Just be careful that it doesn't want a piece of the adventurers.
