Description
Big Tom is an especially large and fearsome Cockatrice of indeterminate age. He is highly territorial and known for petrifying whole groups of adventurers who refuse to respect his domain. His size and damage sustained to his wings over the years have robbed him of the ability to fly, except in desperate circumstances, but he remains a fearsome opponent even on the ground.
Locals know how to avoid or placate Big Tom, but travellers often fall foul of him, so herbalists and clerics in the village do a brisk trade in charms and remedies to ward off or cure petrification.
Big Tom is designed to give low-level adventurers a chance to run into a colourful and powerful opponent, and also to get familiar with the way Legendary Monsters work so that they can prepare for the more deadly encounters they'll face later on.
