Abject Terror. When a creature first sees the wendigo in its full form, it must make a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or be stunned for up to one minute. This saving throw can be repeated at the end of each of the creature's turns. If the creature succeeds on the saving throw, it is immune to the effect for the next 24 hours. A creature is immune to this effect if it cannot be frightened.
Prowler. This creature has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and can attempt to hide even when it is only lightly obscured by foliage, mist, precipitation, or other natural phenomena.
Mimicry. The wendigo can mimic any sounds it has heard, including voices. A creature that hears the sounds can tell they are imitations with a successful DC 14 Wisdom (Insight) check.
Voracious. While a Small or larger creature has 0 hit points or is otherwise unconscious, the wendigo can begin to attempt to consume it. Over the course of three rounds, the wendigo must spend its Bite action to feed upon the creature. For each increase in size category beyond Medium, the wendigo must spend an additional two rounds to completely devour the creature. If the creature heals at any point during this process, the number of actions the wendigo must spend resets. Once the wendigo has consumed the creature, its maximum hit points increases by 1d8, and its claw attacks deal an additional 1d6 slashing damage. Its height also grows by 1d4 feet. When this occurs, the creature it has fed upon dies.
Multiattack. The wendigo makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) piercing damage. On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or take 1d8 necrotic damage and have its maximum hit points reduced by a number equal to the necrotic damage taken. This reduction lasts until the target takes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage.
Opportune Glutton. When a creature is reduced to 0 hit points while it is within melee range of the wendigo's bite attack, the wendigo may use its reaction to perform the Bite action against the target.
Description
Once a normal wood elf living in forgotten city of Molaesmyr, this creature was twisted by the cursed magicks of the Savalirwood into the flesh-hungry wendigo it is today. The skull of a deer has molded onto where its head once stood, and its lip flesh is sparse and rotted, a by-product of the creature's insatiable hunger leading to autocannibalism.
The unnamed once-elf refused to leave its home when the forest first began to show signs of corruption. Food quickly became scarce, save for the odd berry here and there. Over time, its consumption of the cursed flora began to addle the elf's mind and make it prone in equal measures to rage and long period of unnervingly silent contemplation.
One night, it came across a glade, tinged a deep crimson by the reflection of Ruidus above in the cloudless sky. The emaciated elf fell into a trance as it stared into the red waters throughout the entire night. As Ruidus began to fade to the daylight hours, a hunter bearing the carcass of a deer approached the elf, asking if it was alright.
Its meditation interrupted, the elf fell upon the hunter in a rage. With a violent rage unknown to even itself, the starved elf crushed the hunter's skull with the deer's and hungrily consumed both corpses raw. As the last of Ruidus's light relinquished the elf's body, the mess of organ and bone began to morph into a new monstrosity, and the sun shone down on the wendigo for the first time.
Deceptive Appearance. The wendigo's thin, emaciated body belies the massive strength and speed it wields to consume its hapless victims. Though its arms and legs may be little more than skin on bone, they can easily defend against most weapon attacks. The wendigo rises up to a full twenty feet in height; however, it rarely stands tall, preferring to crouch low to stalk its prey silently.
Keen Hunter. While there is little resemblance of elvenkind in the wendigo's current form, it still retains its fierce humanoid intelligence and uses it effectively during the hunt. Sometimes, the wendigo will study and track its prey for days before deciding to strike. The wendigo prefers to attack with its arms and beak, but it is also known to implement tools. In preparation for times of scarcity, it will also capture its prey alive and stockpile jars of flesh instead of immediately consuming, though it will sometimes allow its gluttony to get the better of it.
Unending Hunger. The wendigo's primary motivation is to consume. Nothing is more important to it than its need to feed. By the nature of its curse, however, the wendigo can never satiate its hunger.
