Actions

Multiattack. The Ancient Dead can use its Gaze of the Ancient Dead and makes one attack with its rotting fist.

Rotting Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage plus 10 (3d6) necrotic damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with mummy rot. The cursed target can't regain hit points, and its hit point maximum decreases by 10 (3d6) for every 24 hours that elapse. If the curse reduces the target's hit point maximum to 0, the target dies, and its body turns to dust. The curse lasts until removed by the remove curse spell or other magic.

Gaze of the Ancient Dead. The mummy targets one creature it can see within 60 feet of it. If the target can see the mummy, it must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or take (2d4) necrotic damage and become frightened until the end of the mummy's next turn. If the target fails the saving throw by 5 or more, it is also paralyzed for the same duration. A target that succeeds on the saving throw is immune to the Dreadful Glare of all mummies (but not mummy lords) for the next 24 hours.

Crawling Swarm (Recharge 5-6). A swarm of Beetles, Centipedes, and Wasps pour from underneath the Ancient Dead's wrappings.

Wrap (Recharge 5–6). Ranged Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, range 30/60 ft., one creature. Hit: The target is restrained by bandages. As an action, the restrained target can make a DC 17 Strength check, bursting the wrapping on a success. The wrapping can also be attacked and destroyed (AC 10; hp 5; vulnerability to fire damage; immunity to bludgeoning, poison, and psychic damage). The affected creature must then make a DC 15 STR saving throw with disadvantage, or be pulled 15 ft. towards the Ancient Dead. If the save fails by 5 or more, the creature is knocked prone.

Breath of Decay (Recharge 6). The Ancient Dead exhales a miasma in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or take 3d6 Necrotic damage and be poisoned for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of their turn.

Legendary Actions

The Ancient Dead can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Ancient Dead regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Move. The Ancient Dead moves up to its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Attack. The Ancient Dead makes a Rotting Fist attack, but without the Necrotic damage (unless they are doing well).

Attempt Recharge.  The Ancient Dead makes one attempt to recharge one of its abilities.

Whirlwind Shield (Costs 2 Actions). A whirlwind of sand whips around the Ancient Dead, heavily obscuring it and flinging sand into nearby enemies' eyes. Any hostile creatures within 5 feet of the Ancient Dead must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or be blinded for one minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turn. The shield lasts until the end of the Ancient Dead's next turn.

Description

Raised by dark funerary rituals and still wrapped in the shrouds of death, mummies shamble out from lost temples and tombs to slay any who disturb their rest.
