Description
Arachne was the daughter of Idmon who challenged Athena to a weaving contest. She insulted the gods in a beautiful woven tapestry, far better than Athena's. The goddess was enraged and she humiliated Arachne, and the woman hung herself. Athena turned her into a giant spider to weave her web for all eternity.
As a spider, she is huge and her face is vaguely human, and she has almost human hands on the end of each of her eight legs. Otherwise, she resembles a spider.
Lair and Lair Actions
When fighting inside its lair, Arachne can invoke the ambient magic to take lair actions. On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Arachne takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects:
- Arachne casts phantasmal force (no components required) on any number of creatures it can see within 60 feet of it. While maintaining concentration on this effect, Arachne can’t take other lair actions. If a target succeeds on the saving throw or if the effect ends for it, the target is immune to Arachne's phantasmal force lair action for the next 24 hours, although such a creature can choose to be affected.
- Arachne channels her rage for the gods into her webs. Any creatures she chooses within a 90-foot radius of her must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take 13 (2d10 + 4)
