Grasping Eyestalks. The big eye can have up to twelve eyestalks at a time. Each eyestalk can be attacked (AC 20; 10 hit points; immunity to poison and psychic damage). Destroying an eyestalk deals no damage to the big eye. An eyestalk can also be broken if a creature takes an action and succeeds on a DC 15 Strength check against it.
Eye of the Beholder. The big eye's central eye creates an area where magic is dimmed in a 90-foot-line. At the start of each of its turns, the big eye decides which way the line faces. All saves against magical effects that are cast in this line or target a creature in this line have advantage, and all damage and attack rolls from magical effects have disadvantage if the target and/or caster is in this line.
Spider Climb. The big eye can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
Wakeful. While the big eye is sleeping, the eyes on its eyestalks are awake and watching....
Multiattack. The big eye uses its Frightful Glare, makes five attacks with its eyestalks, uses Reel, and makes one attack with its bite.
Frightful Glare. Each creature of the big eye's choice within a 90-foot cone emanating from its central eye must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute or until they succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom check made as an action on one of their turns.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 26 (5d8 + 4) piercing damage.
Eyestalk. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 30 ft., one creature. Hit: The target is grappled (escape DC 15). Until the grapple ends, the target is restrained and has disadvantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws, and the big eye can't use the same eyestalk on another target.
Reel. The big eye pulls each creature grappled by it up to 25 feet straight toward it. All creatures brought to within 10 feet of the big eye take a combined total of half damage dealt to the big eye (rounded up), and the big eye takes the rest.
Description
Anciently, mind flayers experimented with infusing ropers with the aberrant magic of beholders. The result is what is often known as 'big eyes'. ![]()
A roper
Each big eye has thirteen eyes: a large central eye and twelve lidless eyes on long, thin, tendril-like eyestalks around its body.
