Description

A breed of horse that has made its living on the southern coast of Gondria.

Its main instincts are running from danger and living on fish that wash up on the shoreline. Naturally they are extremely shy, but some folk from the coast, such as the tortles have occasionally managed to gain their trust.

Alberrans have developed the specialty of housing shell creatures and barnacles in their shaggy fur, creating plates of hard limestone that shield them from larger predators and sharp weapons. This habit has earned them the names "Shellshags" and "Pearlhides". Naturally, to regain lost armor and to keep it intact, Alberrans need to frequently rest in shallow waters.

The main threat to these horses comes from both the forests to the north and the sea in the south. Alberran leather and furs have special properties that make them great for weatherproof clothing. The rare shellcreatures and possible sources of pearls in their hide also make them a target. The hunt by local intelligent species has brought all relatives of this horsebreed to extinction, leaving only those with limestone armor to roam the cliffs and beaches of Asteria.
