Traits

Devourer (Mythic Trait; Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). If the apophis is reduced to 0 hit points, it doesn’t die or fall unconscious. Instead, it regains 200 hit points. It then immediately moves up to its movement and swallows a Large or smaller creature if it is able.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the apophis fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. The apophis has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Ophidiophobia Aura (Mythic Trait). Any creature of the apophis' choice, other than a snake or a yuan-ti, that starts its turn within 30 feet of the apophis and can see or hear it must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of snakes and yuan-ti. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a target’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to this aura for the next 24 hours.

Actions

Multiattack. The apophis makes one constrict attack, one bite attack, and one spit attack. If the apophis already has a creature constricted, it can make a bite or spit attack in place of its constrict attack.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (3d10 + 6) piercing damage, and the target is swallowed if it is a Large or smaller creature that is constricted by the apophis. A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the apophis, and takes 10 (3d6) acid damage at the start of each of the apophis' turns. The apophis' gullet can hold up to two creatures at a time. If the apophis takes 20 damage or more on a single turn from a creature inside it, the apophis must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate all swallowed creatures, each of which falls prone in a space within 10 feet of the apophis. If the apophis dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse using 10 feet of movement, exiting prone.

Constrict. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft., one Large or smaller creature. Hit: 16 (3d6 + 6) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 19). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the apophis can’t constrict another target.

Poison Spit. Ranged Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (4d6) acid damage and the target must make Constitution saving throw (DC 17). If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the creature is instantly petrified. Otherwise, a creature that fails the save begins to turn to stone and is restrained. The restrained creature must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn, becoming petrified on a failure or ending the effect on a success. The petrification becomes permanent, killing the creature, if the creature isn't freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic within 7 days of being petrified.

Legendary Actions

The apophis can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. It can take only one legendary action at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The apophis regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Evade. The apophis sets is gaze on a creature it can see within 120 ft. The next attack the watched creature makes against the apophis before the end of the creature's next turn is made with disadvantage.

Tail Whip. The apophis violently slams its tail down on a point it can see with 20 ft. Creatures within 10 ft. of the point of impact must succeed on a DC 19 Strength saving throw or take 9 (2d8) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone.

Mythic Actions

If the apophis' mythic trait is active, it can use the options below as legendary actions for 1 hour after using Devourer.

Hypnotic Hood. The apophis flares its mesmerizing hood at a creature it can see within 30 ft. If the creature can see the apophis, it must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by the apophis until the end of the creature's next turn. While charmed in this way, the creature is incapacitated and has a speed of 0.

Sibilant Screech (Costs 3 Actions). The apophis lets out a piercing, demonic hiss. Creatures other than snakes or yuan-ti within 60 ft. of the apophis that can hear it must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become paralyzed until the start of the apophis' next turn.

Description

Fighting the apophis as a mythic encounter is equivalent to taking on two challenge rating 15 creatures in one encounter. Award a party 26,000 XP for defeating the apophis after it uses Devourer.
