Charge. If the bug moves at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then hits it with a roll attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 2 (1d4) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be pushed 5 feet away and knocked prone.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d4 + 1) piercing damage.

Roll. Melee Weapon Attack: +1 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2 (1d4) bludgeoning damage.

Guard. The bug rolls into a tight ball. Until the start of its next turn the bug gains a +3 to it's Armor Class and cannot attack or move.

Description

Rollbugs are common around dense, ancient forests and swamps. They live in burrows and mounds or in suitably sized caves and crevasses. Their bodies are covered by a series of hard, chitinous plates and are well suited to deflecting blades. These plates are often sought by skilled armorers for their lightness and flexibility.

Rollbugs are typically docile and mindless, feeding on decaying leaf litter and other organic matter, but may find their way into farmlands and storehouses when their natural food becomes scarce.

Often found in moderate groups, the bugs may choose to challenge combatants if their feeding is interrupted. Their bodies can form tight balls of interlocking plates before rolling at speed towards distant foes.

The bugs are deeply fearful of fires and storms, burrowing deep underground when startled by such events.
