Swarm. The swarm can occupy another creature's space and vice versa, and the swarm can move through any opening large enough for a diminutive insect. The swarm can't regain hit points.
Infrafvision. The swarm tracks prey by tracking heat signatures. It cannot 'see' creatures who do not produce body heat, such as the undead, many constructs, or ice-based creatures.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 0 ft., one target in the swarm's space. Hit: 6d4 piercing damage, or 4d4 piercing damage if the swarm has half of its hit points or fewer.
Description
Carrion feeders from the Nine Hells, blood scarabs swarm in the thousands. Each is a coin-sized blood red beetle that descends on the battlefields of the Blood War and picks clean the flesh of devils and demons that fall in battle. Rarely do they find themselves in the Material Plane, but if they do they're drawn to sources of sustenance: Fey, Fiends, Celestials, and Undead. When any creature of these types burns within five miles, the scent draws the Blood Scarabs within 1d4 hours. Knowing this, sometimes dark wizards summon swarms of Blood Scarabs from the hells to guard an area by consuming any soul unfortunate enough to intrude.
Blood Scarabs are voracious eaters. Most natural creatures do not have enough magic within themselves to sustain a swarm of Blood Scarabs, but they will consume the flesh of a human or halfling just the same on the off chance the creature has a draconic or infernal bloodline.
