Petrifying Fumes. If a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the basil-isk, the basil-isk can force the creature to make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw if the basil-isk isn't incapacitated. On a failed save, the creature magically begins to turn to stone and is restrained. It must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn. On a success, the effect ends. On a failure, the creature is petrified until freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic.
A creature that isn't surprised can cover its face to avoid fumes and the saving throw at the start of its turn. If it does so, it can't see the basil-isk until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again. If it removes its hands in the meantime, it must immediately make the save.

Description
A basili-sk is a herbal horror whose deadly pollen transforms victims into potted clay. With its strong jaws, the creature consumes this clay which returns to organic form in its gullet.
Lair and Lair Actions
Archdruid Bryrona's nature preserve serves as a regional lair and provides beneficial effects to all plant creatures. On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the Basil-isk takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects:
Toxic Spores. The nature preserve fills a 20-foot cube within the battlefield with toxic spores. Each non-plant creature in that area must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or take 9 (2d6) poison damage and be poisoned until the end of its next turn.
