Traits

Swarm. The Aithren has advantage on attack rolls while another of its kind is within 10ft of it; otherwise, it has disadvantage.

Grappler. While the Aithren is grappling a creature, its speed is not restricted. The Aithren may lift up to 400lbs without movement restrictions.

Actions

Multiattack. The Aithren makes two claw attacks and one stinger attack or uses spit mucous.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., 1 target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) [slashing] damage and the creature is grappled by the Aithren. The Aithren may have only two creatures grappled at a time and cannot make attacks with a claw that is grappling a creature. It takes a success on a DC14 STR throw as an action to escape and each attempt deals the creature 3 (1d6) slashing damage.

Stinger. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 15 ft., 1 target. Hit:  6 (1d8 + 2) [piercing damage] plus 4 (1d8) [poison] damage.

Spit Mucous. RangedWeapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 30 ft., 1 target. Hit: 18 (4d8 + 2) [acid] damage and the target is restrained where it is. A restrained creature may make a DC14 STR throw as an action on their turn, escaping on a success.

Description

Aithren are large creatures resembling giant insects with their beetle-like body and wings but they also have two drooping claws like that of a crab that seem too big for it. A long tail ends in a stinger that possesses blood boiling poison and they can spit a sticky mucous when their prey is out of reach.

These creatures live in massive colonies within the hollows of mountains, led by an especially massive Aithren leader that never leaves the nest. Aithren like to grapple and carry off creatures to the nest where they share the meal with their fellow kind while it's still squirming. Aithren hunt in packs ranging from five to thirty depending on the strength of the particular nest.
