Traits

Starlight Camouflage. While backed by the astral sea, the Astral Angler rolls advantage on stealth.

Readied Suprise. Add +4 to hit against targets who are surprised.

Gobble. When the Astral Angler hits a surprised creature with Grappling Teeth it may use a bonus action to use swallow immediately afterwards.

Frightful Face. When a creature looks at the Astral Angler it must succeed on a DC 10 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. If the save fails by 5 or more, the target is also paralysed for one turn. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the frightened condition on itself on a success. If a target's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to any Astral Angler's Frightful Face for the next 24 hours.

Actions

Grappling Teeth. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage plus 3 (1d6) poison damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 13). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the toad can't bite another target.

Swallow. The Astral Angler causes a Medium or smaller target it is grappling to be swallowed, and the grapple ends. The swallowed target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the toad, and it takes 10 (3d6) acid damage at the start of each of the toad's turns. The Astral Angler can have only one target swallowed at a time. If the Astral Angler dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse using 5 feet of movement, exiting prone.

Flash (Recharge 6). The Astral Angler's glowing antenna flashes brightly. Creatures in a 20-foot cube from the Astral Angler must make a DC13 Constitution saving throw or be blinded for one minute. Players may repeat the saving throw at the end of each subsequent turn to end the effect.

Description

The creature's skin is a translucent foggy flesh that slightly refracts light around it; the surface texture can faze into a watery astral sea sky. When revealing its presence; the astral sea seems to rip open, revealing a grey pulsing throat, almost like a teleportation gate which will move into its prey's space and clamp down, casting it into a dark void.
