Traits

Magic Resistance. The phoenix has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Limited Telepathy. The phoenix can magically communicate simple ideas, emotions, and images telepathically with any creature within 100 feet of it that can understand a language.

Familiar. The phoenix can serve another creature as a familiar, forming a magic, telepathic bond with that willing companion. While the two are bonded, the companion can sense what the phoenix senses as long as they are within 1 mile of each other. While the phoenix is within 5 feet of its companion, the companion shares the phoenix’s Magic Resistance trait. At any time and for any reason, the phoenix can end its service as a familiar, ending the telepathic bond.

Fire to Ash. When the phoenix dies, a phoenix egg can appears in the space the phoenix previously occupied. The phoenix egg automatically fails any saving throw it requires, has an AC of 7, and 1 hit point. The egg hatches on the next sunrise into the phoenix at full hit points. The new phoenix inherits the memories of the previous incarnation, although considered a new being. If the egg is destroyed before it was hatched, the phoenix contained is banished to the Celestial Plane.

Actions

Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) slashing damage.

Fire Ray. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 15 ft., one creature. Hit: 4 (1d8) fire damage.

Illumination. The phoenix sheds bright light in a 30-foot-radius and dim light an additional 30 feet. The effect lasts for an hour unless canceled with a bonus action or dispelled.

Reactions

New Life. When a creature bonded to the phoenix within its sight has its hit points drop to 0 or dies, the phoenix can make a DC 10 Charisma check. On a success, the phoenix transfers all of its remaining hit points to the fallen, if still unconscious. If the fallen has died, it brings the fallen back in a stabilized condition. The phoenix turns uses its Fire to Ash feature immediately after a successful use of this ability.
