Useful Pheromones. At any point given the ammonite contains 1d6 doses of pheromone ink. It can be removed from its corpse with a DC 16 survival check and is ruined on a failed attempt.

Water Breathing. The ammonite can breathe only underwater.

Actions

Tentacles. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2 (1d4) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 10). Until this grapple ends, the ammonite can't use its tentacles on another target.

Pheromone Ink (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). The ammonite shoots out a cloud of pheromone laced ink in a 10-foot cone. For one hour after being sprayed beasts within a mile radius around the target that can smell become hostile towards it and move in to attack.

Description

Ammonites are cousins of octopi and squid which were much more common in the ancient past but persist in some primeval lagoons and isolated reefs. Unlike their cousins' ammonites have a thick shell for protection allowing them to swim in open water after small fish, crustaceans, and plankton. If they are attacked an ammonite will preferably spray the offender with ink, then flee as quickly as possible as this ink drives non cephalopod beasts into a frenzy, they're know to linger near sharks and dolphins in case of emergency. Unfortunately for these prehistoric creatures their pheromones are highly prized leading to overfishing, the chemicals miraculously work just as well on land animals as they do underwater and more than one noble has been devoured by their own hounds when applying laced perfume.
