Traits

Angelic Weapons. All of Vairgwain's attacks are magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to non-magical attacks.

Otherworldly Nature. Vairgwain doesn't require food, drink, air, or sleep.

Flyby. Vairgwain doesn't provoke opportunity attacks while flying or from lifting off.

Imposing Stature. Vairgwain is immune to any effect that would move him against his will. Additionally, he has advantage on any ability checks or saving throws made to resist being knocked prone.

Wounded Retribution. While Vairgwain is at half hit points or less, he can take two reactions in a round, but only once per turn. While he has a quarter or less of his hit points remaining, he can take three reactions in a round, but only once per turn. While he has only one eighth or less of his hit points remaining, he can take four reactions in a round, but only two per turn.

Force of Vengeance. Any attack Vairgwain makes against a fiend or undead is considered a critical hit on an 18 or higher. Additionally, if a fiend or undead ends its turn within 5 ft. of him, it takes 13 (3d8) radiant damage. (Vairgwain can choose not to deal this damage to specific creatures)

No Mercy. If Vairgwain deals damage to a fiend or undead equal to or greater than its hit point maximum in a single turn, they are destroyed no matter what. Even if it is a lich with an operational phylactery or a devil outside their home plane; they no longer exist.

Last Stand. If Vairgwain is dropped to 0 hit points, he stays alive for one extra round. During this time he emits bright light in a 15-ft. radius and dim light for an additional 15-ft. Any creature that ends its turn within that bright light must succeed on a (DC 23) Constitution saving throw, being blinded for 1 minute on a fail. Additionally, Vairgwain's attacks deal an extra 10 (3d6) force damage. At the start of Vairgwain's next turn, he finally dies, creating a massive explosion. Each creature within a 60 ft. radius of Vairgwain when he dies must succeed on a (DC 23) Dexterity saving throw, taking 65 (10d12) radiant damage plus 55 (10d10) force damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.

Actions

Multiattack. Vairgwain makes three weapon attacks, or two weapon attacks and one aether step.

Reaper's Scythe. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 66 (5d20 + 14) slashing damage plus 78 (12d12) necrotic damage. Vairgwain then regains hit points equal to the necrotic damage dealt.

Stormbreaker Shield. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 66 (5d20 + 14) bludgeoning damage plus 78 (12d12) thunder damage. The target must make a (DC 23) Strength saving throw. On a fail, the target is pushed up to 30 ft. away from Vairgwain in a straight line and knocked prone. On a success, the target is only pushed 15 ft. and isn't knocked prone.

Deathly Wings. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 66 (5d20 + 14) piercing damage plus 78 (12d12) radiant damage. Vairgwain then flies up to 30 ft.

Aether Step. Vairgwain teleports to a space he can see within 30 ft. of him. Any creatures or objects of size medium or smaller that were in that space are immediately shunted to the nearest unnocupied space, and must all make (DC 23) Wisdom saving throws. On a fail, a creature or object takes 78 (12d12) force damage and is stunned until the end of Vairgwain's next turn. On a success, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't stunned. Objects automatically fail this saving throw. Vairgwain cannot use this ability to teleport into a space that includes a large or larger creature or object.

Bonus Actions

Vairgwain can take one of the following bonus actions on his turn, but he can't use the same one two turns in a row:

Ever Vigilant. Vairgwain instantly regains 15 hit points. If he has less than half of his hit points remaining, he regains 30 hit points instead.

Touch of The Divine. Vairgwain casts one cantrip or 1st-level spell from the cleric or paladin spell list. To determine what happens with scaling effects for these spells, assume Vairgwain is a 17th-level cleric and paladin, and is casting from a 5th-level spell slot.

Embody The Blessed One. Vairgwain casts either GateHoly Aura, or Divine Word without needing material components.

Reactions

Radiant Plate. Vairgwain wears a set of Radiant Plate, which means when a creature within 5 ft. of him hits him with a melee weapon attack, he can take a reaction to deal radiant damage to his attacker equal to the damage taken.

Care For Those In Need. When a creature in combat that Vairgwain sees spends its entire turn healing, buffing, or otherwise supporting its allies without the use of violence, Vairgwain can take a reaction to make that creature immune to all damage except psychic until the start of its next turn.

Tactical Retreat. When a creature deals damage to Vairgwain, he can take a reaction to fly up to 60 ft.

Legendary Actions

Vairgwain can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Vairgwain regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

Touch of The Divine. Vairgwain casts one cantrip from the cleric or paladin spell list. To determine what happens with scaling effects for these spells, assume Vairgwain is a 17th-level cleric and paladin.

Show No Weakness. Vairgwain instantly regains 5 hit points. If he has half or less of his hit points remaining, he regains 10 hit points instead.

Celestial Wrath (Costs 2 actions). Vairgwain makes one attack with either his Reaper's Scythe or his Stormbreaker Shield.

No Time To Die! (Costs 3 actions). Vairgwain casts Time Stop. He can only use this legendary action during his Last Stand.
