Posted Nov 7, 2021Beautiful build with interesting tweaks:
The Charge action is not the typical monster trait, because no attack action is required to compel a Strength saving throw versus knockback and prone condition. This means the bear could move up to 60 feet, displacing any number of creatures in the latter half of the movement and also knock them prone, then follow through with a +12 multiattack with advantage at any time the Ancient Bear's movement places them within 10ft of a prone creature. The players won't forget being mauled and tossed about by this beastie.
There is no limit clause on the calling action, such as a 1/day or even a recharge threshold, and that's okay so long as the DM doesn't abuse it. I'd use the Call of the Wild action to cover the Ancient Bear's retreat or help the the leader track down fleeing creatures because I don't think spamming brown bears and dire wolves to directly threaten adventurers would be all that fun to run or play, unless the intention is to cool down a hostile situation with a dramatic show of force.
The bear clearly has a sentient mind and can understand speech, implying the possibility of communication to understand its needs and goals. For this reason, I wouldn't hesitate to present this bear to a weak party that might be inclined to peacefully interact with it.

Posted Nov 15, 2021I actually made this as a one off for my own campaign but figured I'd publish it. Some of those things you mention the 1/day was actually intended, to work similar to a Vampire's Children of the night action.
However it appears that was an oversight, that I'll cheekily edit in when I get a minute to, This was actually my first homebrewed creature so I'm glad that you found it as such!
