Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage plus 3 (1d6) acid damage. If the target is a Large or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 13). Until this grapple ends, the ankheg can bite only the grappled creature and has advantage on attack rolls to do so.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.
Acid Spray (Recharge 5-6). The ankheg hive mother spits acid in a line that is 30 feet long and 5 feet wide, provided that it has no creature grappled. Each creature in that line must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Description
The Ankheg Hive Mother remains underground during mating season, finding then devouring a mate before laying a clutch of eggs. She will spend up to a week creating an underground burrow for the eggs to mature, stocking it with corpses for the hatchlings to eat. She will lay between 10 and 20 eggs, which will mature over 45 days. Most (90%) of the eggs will hatch, and another 10% could wind up as casualties of other hatchlings. The surviving hatchlings will dig their way out of the burrow after two or three days to hunt and grow.
