Limited Telepathy. The arcanumvorax can telepathically communicate simple ideas, emotions, and images to any creature within 30 feet of it that can understand a language.
Magic Resistance. The arcanumvorax has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Multiattack. The arcanumvorax makes three attacks: one with its bite or Mind Bolt and two with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) piercing damage. If the target is a creature under the effect of a spell of any type, the arcanumvorax gains one of the following benefits of its choice:
Frenzy. The arcanumvorax has advantage on attack rolls until the end of its next turn.
Invigorate. The arcanumvorax regains 6 (1d8 + 2) hit points.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage. If the target is a Large or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 15). Until this grapple ends, the arcanumvorax can't use its Claw attack on another target, and when it moves, it can drag the grappled creature with it, without the arcanumvorax's speed being halved.
Mind Bolt. Ranged Spell Attack: +7 to hit, range 120 ft., one creature. Hit: 11 (2d10) psychic damage
Spell Mimic. Whenever the arcanumvorax sees a creature cast an Illusion spell, it can use its reaction to attempt to transform itself into a copy of that illusion. The duplicate is a creature, partially real and formed from pure magical energy, and it can take actions and otherwise be affected as a normal creature. It appears to be the same as the original, but it cannot cast spells or use magic items, and has only a single hit point. When the illusion is destroyed, dispelled, or reduced to 0 hit points, the arcanumvorax reverts to its normal form and returns to the number of hit points it had before it transformed. The illusion can only take actions that are available to the creature, object, or phenomenon it duplicates, or use its Bonus Action to revert to its normal form. If the copied spell is of 3rd Level or lower, this ability succeeds automatically. If the spell is of 4th Level or higher, the arcanumvorax makes an ability check using its Intelligence. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a failure, this trait has no effect.
Description
The arcanumvorax is a magical cousin of the more common aurumvorax, typically found disguised in illusory forms in high-magic urban environments or at sites of raw magical power. The arcanumvorax is a clever, solitary creature, motivated purely by an insatiable hunger for magical energy.
