Description
An Alpha Ferroslaug stands about 5-6 feet at the shoulder, and about 8-9 feet from end to end. these beasts resemble fiery fiends but are actually elemental beasts that originate from the border plane between the Elemental Planes of Fire and Earth, where they are often used as hunting animals by Djinn and other Elemental beings. They are naturally often found underground in mines, feasting on raw iron ore and causing havoc for all who come across them. When they manage to get onto the Prime Material Plane, they rarely venture beyond underground or volcanic areas.
Their "skin" is actually a series of cracked iron plates that shift and clink as the creature moves, with its orange-yellow flesh beneath radiating a dangerous heat. Its razor sharp teeth and claws glow orange, and molten metal drips from its open maw. Its body resembles a stocky tailless panther, but its face and jaws are reptilian, almost draconic in appearance.
An Alpha Ferroslaug differs from its brethren in more than just size. It is smarter, faster, more cunning, and can command its fellow packmates to actually strategize to take down foes far beyond what they could take down individually. The Alpha is also protective of its pack, and will often come to aid wounded packmates, and viciously avenge any that fall.
An Alpha Ferroslaug youngling, if taken from its pack and raised properly, can become a dangerous hunting ally and steadfast ally. This requires years of discipline and a steady source of ore-rich rock to feed it with. Alphas can also be taught and trained as mounts, but this requires at least 5 years of training, and a specialized fire-proof saddle that's often enchanted. Seeing a trained Alpha as a mount is a sign of either wealth or status for the adventurer able to command it.
An average ferroslaug pack consists of three males and one alpha female
