Brave. Paela has Advantage on saving throws she makes to avoid or end the Frightened Condition on herself.

Halfling Nimbleness. Paela can move through the space of any creature that is of a Size larger than hers, but she can’t stop there.

Luck. When Paela rolls a 1 on the d20 of a d20 Test, she can reroll the die, and must use the new roll.

Lucky. Paela has inexplicable luck that can kick in at just the right moment, granting her the following benefits:
 •  Luck Points (2/Day). Paela can spend the points on the benefits below, and she regains her expended Luck Points when she finishes a Long Rest.
 •  Advantage. Immediately after Paela rolls a d20 for a d20 Test, she can spend 1 Luck Point to give herself Advantage on the roll.
 •  Disadvantage. When a creature rolls a d20 for an attack roll against Paela, she can spend 1 Luck Point to impose Disadvantage on that roll.

Actions

Multiattack. Paela makes two Shortsword or Shortbow attacks. She can replace one attack with a use of Spellcasting.

Shortsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) piercing damage.

Shortbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) piercing damage.

Cacophony (Recharge 4–6). Each creature in a 15-foot cube originating from Paela must make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 9 (2d8) thunder damage and is pushed up to 10 feet away from Paela. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn’t pushed.

Spellcasting. Paela casts one of the following spells, using Charisma as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 12):

At will: dancing lights, mage hand, prestidigitation

1/day each: charm person, invisibility, sleep

Bonus Actions

Taunt (2/Day). Paela targets one creature within 30 feet of her. If the target can hear Paela, the target must succeed on a DC 12 Charisma saving throw or have disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws until the start of the bard’s next turn.

Description

Paela, a young Halfling woman, is a gifted poet, storyteller, and entertainer who travels far and wide. Each bard is a master of at least one type of performance, Paela is a master of the flute. She’s commonly found in taverns or in the company of jolly bands of adventurers, rough-and-tumble mercenaries, and wealthy patrons. She is blessed (some might say cursed) with a brave and adventurous spirit that leads her on journeys of discovery, affording her the chance to explore a bigger world and make new friends along the way. Paela’s size—being not unlike that of a human child—helps her avoid unwanted entanglements and slip into and out of tight spaces. Anyone who has spent time around Paela has likely witnessed the storied “luck of the halflings” in action. When she is in mortal danger, it seems as though an unseen force intervenes on Paela’s behalf.

Paela grew up on the streets, surrounded by similarly ill-fated castoffs, a few of them friends and a few of them rivals. She slept where she could and did odd jobs for food. At times, when the hunger became unbearable, Paela resorted to theft. Still, she never lost her pride and never abandoned hope. Fate was not yet finished with her. She spent much of your adolescence following roving fairs and carnivals, performing odd jobs for musicians and acrobats in exchange for lessons. Paela has learned how to walk a tightrope, how to double pick a lute, and how to recite Elvish poetry with the impeccable trills of an elf poet. To this day, she thrives on applause and longs for the stage.
