False Call. The Corpse Weeper mimics the death rattle or call of help of its recent victim, usually to lure prey. The Corpse Weeper must be in contact with the dead body of a creature to mimic its sound.

Grappler. The Corpse Weeper has advantage on attack rolls against any creature grappled by it.

Actions

Multiattack. The Corpse Weeper makes two attacks with its claws. It can use its Feeding Appendages or Siphon Bodily Fluids in place of one claw attack.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 9 (1d6 + 5) slashing damage.

Feeding Appendages. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 9 (1d6 + 5) bludgeoning damage. A medium or smaller creature is then grappled by long appendages from its mouth (escape DC 13). The Corpse Weeper can only grapple one creature at a time. It can perform the Siphon Bodily Fluids action to a grappled creature as a bonus action.

Siphon Bodily Fluids. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 15 (3d6 + 3) piercing damage. The target must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or its hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the damage taken. This reduction lasts until the target finishes a short or long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.

Description

A Corpse Weeper resembles a giant butterfly standing upright on two pairs of hind legs, with front legs like that of a mantis. But instead of having a proboscis, sucking appendages writhe from it mouth.

An adult lays it eggs inside the dehydrated, dead bodies of its victim. The hatched larvae then proceed to feed on the remains of its cocoon. This is when the young Corpse Weepers learn their mimicry trait, and it is said that during this time, you can hear the sound of wailing among silent corpses.

Corpse Weepers often hunt with a mate or a "harem" lying in ambush.
