Arcane Rejuvenation. For every 10 minutes that Szass Tam isn’t engaged in combat, he regains his lowest-level expended spell slot.
Archmage’s Shield. Szass Tam has a +5 bonus to AC. Archmage’s Shield is a 6th-level spell effect, and if a spell or ability would end it, it is suppressed for 10 minutes instead.
Epic Resistance (3/Day). If Szass Tam would fail a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead. If he does, he automatically succeeds on all saving throws until the end of his next turn.
Grim Reaping. When Szass Tam kills a creature with necrotic damage, he can either regain 22 (5d8) hit points or use a legendary action option.
Limited Magic Immunity. Szass Tam can’t be affected by spells using a spell slot of 6th level or lower unless he wishes to be.
Magic Resistance. Szass Tam has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Marshal Undead. Unless Szass Tam is incapacitated, Undead creatures of his choice within 60 feet of him have advantage on saving throws against effects that turn Undead.
Rejuvenation. If Szass Tam is destroyed, he gains a new body in 1d10 days, regaining all his hit points and becoming active again. The new body appears within 5 feet of his phylactery.
Spellcasting. Szass Tam casts one of the following spells, using Intelligence as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 27, necromancy spell save DC 36, +19 +19 to hit with spell attacks):
Cantrips (at will): all wizard spells (30th-level spellcaster)
1st level (5 slots): all wizard spells
2nd level (5 slots): all wizard spells
3rd level (5 slots): all wizard spells
4th level (4 slots): all wizard spells
5th level (4 slots): all wizard spells
6th level (4 slots): all wizard spells
7th level (4 slots): all wizard spells
8th level (4 slots): all wizard spells
9th level (3 slots): blade of disaster,* foresight,** imprisonment, psychic scream,*** wish

Turn Immunity. Szass Tam is immune to effects that turn Undead.
Zulkir’s Boon. Szass Tam adds twice his proficiency bonus to the DC of necromancy spells he casts (already included).
Multiattack. Szass Tam makes three Archlich’s Claw attacks.
Archlich’s Claw. Melee Spell Attack: +19 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 18 4d8 slashing damage plus 18 4d8 necrotic damage, and the creature must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed until the start of its next turn. Additionally, Szass Tam can use Spellcasting to cast a cantrip.
Formulaic Mind. Until the end of his next turn, Szass Tam can maintain concentration on up to two spells at the same time.
Devastating Counter. When Szass Tam sees a creature within 60 feet of him cast a spell, he can use Spellcasting to cast counterspell. If Szass Tam successfully counters the creature’s spell, it must succeed on a DC 32 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of Szass Tam until the end of Szass Tam’s next turn.
Quick Casting. When another creature targets Szass Tam with an attack or a spell, he can use Spellcasting to cast a spell of 3rd level or lower. Szass Tam can’t use this reaction during his own turn.
Szass Tam can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The larva mage regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Necrotic Burst. Szass Tam exudes raw necromantic energy. Non-Undead, non-Construct creatures within 20 feet of Szass Tam take 32 (4d10 + 10) necrotic damage. This damage bypasses resistances and immunities. Szass Tam regains hit points equal to half the damage roll.
Rework the Weave. Szass Tam transforms a 10-foot cube within 60 feet of him into an antimagic zone until the start of his next turn.
Rapid Cast (Costs 2 Actions). Szass Tam uses Spellcasting to cast a necromancy spell of 3rd level or lower.
Manifest Guardian (Costs 1–3 Actions). Szass Tam manifests one bodyguard (choose from the star spawn and Undead in the “Creature Statistics” section). This creature is loyal to Szass Tam, it can’t be dismissed, and it fights until destroyed. Manifest Guardian costs 1 action for creature of CR 7 or below, 2 actions for a creature of CR 8 to CR 14, and 3 actions for a creature of CR 15 to CR 21. Once used, this option can’t be used again until Szass Tam has slain a creature with necrotic damage.
