Description
Angler ant soldiers burrow into the ceilings of caves and leave their slightly glowing nutrient sacs, which protrude from their heads, exposed to act as lures. When something organic comes too close, they pounce and attempt to subdue, consume, and liquefy their prey. Some of the absorbed nutrients are stored in the sac, which grows from the size of a fist to the size of their head, at which point the ants return to the hive, deposit the sac for the colony, and then become a worker ant for the remainder of their life. They remain formidable foes but are no longer bloodthirsty.
Angler ants chemically react to water as if it were acid and dissolve relatively quickly if immersed.A splash of water does 1d4 damage and if immersed in water they take 2d8 damage per round.
Lair and Lair Actions
In an angler ant's hive, it gets advantage on attacks if it is within 10 feet of another angler ant.
Consume. The angler ant consumes a nutrient sac within five feet of it. The sac disappears and they regain up to half of their maximum hit points.
