Description

Life for an angler ant begins as one among countless tiny insects: mindless, hungry, relatively harmless. They grow from hatching, immersed within a nutrient sac usually stored safely in the hive. Once they consume the sac's contents, and some of one another in the process, they will tear through the depleted sac's membrane and search for a nearby one to continue their feeding. This navigation may be aided by the queen angler ant if they are developed enough to connect to the hive mind. Eventually, individual members of the swarm grow large enough to break free of the sacs and consume nutrients directly. Once their shells fully harden and their own nutrient sac sprouts from their head, they are considered Soldiers and depart to collect nutrients for the hive.

Angler ants chemically react to water as if it were acid and dissolve relatively quickly if immersed.A splash of water does 1d4 damage and if immersed in water they take 2d8 damage per round.
