Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 5 feet, 1 target. Hit: 12 (2d6+6) slashing damage.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dragon's choice that is within 120 feet of the dragon and aware of it must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dragon's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Smoke Wind. RangedWeapon Attack: Dragon exhales smoke in a 50-foot cone. Each character in range must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw, taking (12d6) fire damage and being blinded on failed, taking half damage from successful.

Legendary Actions

Weakening Roar (Costs 2 Actions). Blows thick ash in a 70-foot cone. Anyone in it has -1 on all stats except Wis and Int and are blinded and defeaned for 5 minutes. They also take 20(4d20) damage.

Description

A dark-gray dragon. Ash/Smoke variant of the fire dragon. A bit smaller and not as strong as fire dragon, but faster and stealthier.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the Ash Dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the Ash Dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • Strong wind blows through an opening in the cave, halving the movement of all creatures in the lair except for the Ash Dragon.
  • Rocks fall from the cavern ceiling, causing 20(10d4) damage to all creatures in the lair.

Regional Effects

The region containing a legendary Ash Dragon’s lair is filled with dry, smoky air, which creates 0-1 of the following effects:

  • Air is fatal to breathe. Creatures in the region take 2(1d4-2) damage each time they inhale this air.
  • Not much CO2. Plants in the region are more dry and withered, and all berries are 20% worse to eat.
  • The ground is unstable. Small earthquakes happen about once a week.

If the Ash Dragon dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d6 days.
