Statue Maker. Any skin contact with the wood of a living Aswell tree causes total petrification into wood. The process takes 1 minute and spreads outward from the point of contact. If the infected area is cut away entirely, the infection stops.
Hey, That's Some Quality Wood! Once the Aswell wood is separated from the tree, it dies and loses its power. The actual wood is prized for its quality and grain, despite its difficulty to harvest. Aswell "statues" are expensive relics that many wealthy collectors seek out for their beauty and detail, despite the moral implications.
Description
Beware, ye weary traveller,
As we were damned to hell.
We rested us upon these trees
And turned to wood as well.
As the story goes, a fairy fell in love with a human long ago. When the human died of old age, as all mortals do, the fairy returned to their favorite spot in a nearby forest. Her grief filled the trees with a terrible curse - that all who meet the trees be preserved forever.
The trees have since spread to many other areas, their twisted branches and dark wood spelling death for any who are unaware. A customary warning poem is often carved into the outer trees of the forests by victims already turning to wood.
