Traits

Keen Hearing and Smell. The hound has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell. It also has advantage on Nature or Survival checks to track a creature if that creature is in a Natural Biome or is a living creature of that plane.

Pack Tactics. The hound has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the hound's allies is within 5 ft. of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.

Mount. The hound is large enough that a creature sized Medium or smaller can ride it. Passengers must make a Dexterity save of 10 to remain on the hound if it uses its Teleport ability, else they fall to the ground, or worse, mid-blink. If mid-blink, they appear roughly in the mid-point of where they intended to go. If that is within an object, they are expelled and take 2d8 force damage for every 5 feet required to move them out of the object into the nearest available space.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage.

Teleport (Recharge 4–6). The hound magically teleports, along with any equipment it is wearing or carrying, up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space it can see. Before or after teleporting, the dog can make one bite attack. If the dog is carrying a creature sized Medium, it cannot make this attack.

Blur. Twice per day. The hound's body becomes blurred, shifting and wavering to all who can see you. For the duration, any creature has disadvantage on attack rolls against it for a minute. An attacker is immune to this effect if it doesn’t rely on sight, as with blindsight, or can see through illusions, as with truesight.

Description

The Blink Dog takes its name from its ability to blink in and out of existence, a talent it uses to aid its attacks and to avoid harm. The Warp Hound is a much more powerful and uncommon variation of the Blink Dog; significantly older, touched by the planes, or simply favored by a Fey and given greater power. Often used as hunting dogs by the Fey who enjoy such sport for their fantastic ability to sniff out prey as well as combat capabilities.

They are about as friendly as most dogs; it is wise to be wary around Warp Hounds you aren't acquainted with, but otherwise they are of Good alignment and outlook. Those lost in the Feywilds are lucky if they come across this beast before another, much more dangerous one is able to find them. Very rarely they would even allow a creature to mount them, although only the largest could do this comfortably for longer distances, and the rider would find their teleporting abilities disorienting at best if they managed to hang on.

Warp Hounds are typically between five and six feet tall from the ground to their withers; while sitting, their height from ground to head can be seven or more feet. They are typically six to seven feet long, not including their tails, which can be anywhere from two to four feet long. Their fur is typically short, although the more eccentric of Fey Masters have bred long haired Warp Hounds. It is typically very soft, in shades of yellow, brown, and orange, although Fey Hound Breeders have a variety of shades. The colouration has a tendency to mingle into most natural environments, although this only helps them in lower lights, and has nearly-bio-luminescent properties when blinking, as green and orange light surges across the hairs as they disappear and reappear.
