Traits

False Appearance. While the violet fungus queen remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary cluster of fungus.

Fungal Vessels. The violet fungus queen can control creatures it has killed, animating their body in a crude semblance of life. The queen can choose any creature small, medium, or large in size, creating a zombie version of that creature as appropriate. The queen can see out of their eyes and control these vessels within 1 mile. Beyond that they fall lifeless and inert.

Actions

Multiattack. The queen makes three Rotting Tentacle attacks.

Rotting Tentacle. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 15 ft., one creature. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage plus 4 (1d8) necrotic damage. The target is then grappled (escape DC 15) and pulled up to 10 feet towards the fungus queen. Grappled creatures take 9 (2d8) necrotic damage at the start of the queen’s turn. The queen has three tentacles, and thus, can only grapple three creatures; it cannot use a tentacle to attack if it has a creature grappled with it.

Spore Cloud (Recharge 4-6). The violet fungus unleashes a violent burst of spores around it. Each creature within 10 feet of the queen must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned and paralyzed. Creatures affect by this can make additional saves at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on themselves on a success.

Description

This subspecies of violet fungus grows larger than its cousins, losing its ability to move, but making up for it with a host of mobile minions infected with its spores. This variety is known to be especially deadly, producing spores capable of paralysis. A cluster of queens is known as a hive, and they have been known to destroy Underdark villages.
