Traits

Blessing of Mother Night. Baba Yanoga is shielded against divination magic, as though protected by a nondetection spell.

Blossom of Undeath (Mythic Trait; Recharges after a Short or Long Rest).
If Baba Yanoga is reduced to 0 hit points, she doesn't die or fall unconscious. Instead, she consumes every will-o'-wisp within 60 ft of her, regaining 20 hit points per will-o'-wisp, flies up 30 ft. in the air, regains an additional 270 hit points, and regains a use of its Invoke Curse ability.

Innate Spellcasting. Baba Yanoga's innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 23, +15 to hit with spell attacks). She can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

At will: mage hand, druidcraft, detect magic, crown of madness, enlarge/reduce, misty step, animate dead (as an action), dispel magic, lightning bolt

3/day each: blight, polymorph, geas, scrying, programmed illusion, true seeing, harm

1/day each: finger of death, power word pain, time ravage, wish

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Baba Yanoga fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. Baba Yanoga has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Three Fingered. When Baba Yanoga casts a spell that targets only one creature and doesn’t have a range of self, she can target three creatures instead with the same spell.

Change Shape. Baba Yanoga can use an action to polymorph into a swarm of insects (flies) or back into her true form. While in swarm form, she has inmunity to all damage, a walking speed of 5 feet and a flying speed of 50 feet. The only action she can take while in this form is to revert to its original form. Anything she is wearing transforms with her, but nothing she is carrying does.

Actions

Multiattack. Baba Yanoga can make three Rotting Roots attacks or two Claw attacks.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, range 5 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (3d8 + 4) slashing damage.

Rotting Roots. Ranged Spell Attack: +15 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (4d8) necrotic damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or become restrained as rotting roots wrap around it for 1 minute. A restrained target can use its action to repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Invoke Curse (3/Day). Baba Yanoga targets three creature he can see within 60 feet of him. The target must succeed on a DC 23 Wisdom saving throw or be cursed. Greater restoration, remove curse or similar magic ends the curse on the target. Until the curse is ended, the target has one of the following conditions:

  • It can’t regain hit points
  • It has vulnerability to all damage.
  • It becomes blinded and deafened
  • It becomes poisoned and takes 9 (2d8) poison damage at the start of each of its turns.
  • It must make a DC 23 Wisdom saving throw at the beginning of its turns or be incapacitated until the start of its next turn.
  • If its reduced to 0 hit points, it is disintegrated and can be restored to life only by means of a true resurrection or wish spells
Bonus Actions

Call the Spirits. Baba Yanoga summons two will-o'-wisps in an unocupied space within 30ft of her. The will-o'-wisps are under Baba Yanoga's control. She can have no more than ten will-o'-wisps under its control at one time.

Consume Soul. Baba Yanoga absorbs the energy of a will-o'-wisp she spawned, killing it instantly. She then regains 30 hit points.

Reactions

Feel My Pain. Immediately after an attacker within 30 feet of Baba Yanoga deals damage with an attack against her, she can use its reaction to force the attacker to make a DC 21 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the attacker takes necrotic damage equal to the damage it just dealt. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage.

Hex of Dead. When another creature Baba Yanoga can see makes a saving throw, Baba Yanoga can absorb the energy of a will-o'-wisp she spawned, killing it instantly. The creature then has a -5 penalty to that roll.

Legendary Actions

Baba Yanoga can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Baba Yanoga regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Syphon Life. Baba Yanoga forces a creature restrained by her Rotting Roots attack to make a DC 23 Constitution save or take 13 (3d8) and Baba Yanoga regains hit points equal to double the damage dealt.

Dark Magic (Costs 2 Actions). Baba Yanoga casts a spell from the list of spells she can cast at will.

Disrupt Life (Costs 3 Actions). Each creature within 30 feet of Baba Yanoga must make a DC 23 Constitution saving throw, taking 28 (8d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Mythic Actions

lf Baba Yanoga's mythic trait is active, it can use the options below as legendary actions for 1 hour after using Blossom of Undeath.

Rapid Curse. Baba Yanoga uses her Invoke Curse ability if available.

Decrepitating Maledictum (Costs 2 Actions). Every non-undead creature within 30 ft of Baba Yanoga must make a DC 23 Constitution saving throw or have its Constitution score reduced by 2d4. If this reduces a creature's Constitution to 0, it dies. Otherwise, the reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest. If a humanoid dies from this attack, a new shadow rises from the corpse.

Certain Death (Costs 3 Actions). Baba Yanoga targets a creature she can see within 15 ft, that creature must make a DC 23 Constitution saving throw or die on a failure, or becoming paralized until the end of its next turn on a success.

Lair and Lair Actions

Baba Yanoga's lair in the Shadowfell is called the Soul Garden, a ruin-filled overgrown spirit-infested park that protects and isolates the Queen. Almost nobody, except for their trusted followers, dare to approach it due to the tales of terror told by the very few that managed to escape such haunted grounds.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Baba Yanoga can take a lair action to cause one of the following effects; she can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row.

  • Three will-o'-wisps appear in an unocupied space within 30ft of Baba Yanoga under her control.
  • Until initiative count 20 on the next round, any non-undead creature that tries to cast a spell of 6th level or lower in Baba Yanoga’s lair is wracked with pain. The creature can choose another action, but if it tries to cast the spell, it must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it takes (1d8) necrotic damage per level of the spell, and the spell has no effect and is wasted.
  • Roots and vines magically erupt in a 20-foot radius centered on a point on the ground that Baba Yanoga can see within 120 feet of it. She is unaffected by the roots and vines. For all other creatures, the area becomes difficult terrain, and each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 19 Strength saving throw or be restrained by the roots. As an action, a creature can try to free itself or another creature within its reach, doing so with a successful DC 19 Strength (Athletics) check. The roots and vines wilt away when Baba Yanoga uses this lair action again or when she dies.

Regional Effects

The region containing Baba Yanoga’s lair is warped by his magic, creating one or more of the following effects:

  • The plant life moves on it's own, slowly and sporadically twisting its vines and shaking its branches as if they had a will of their own.
  • Ghostly lights iluminate the surroundings, appearing and disappearing randomly and whispering cries of help.
  • The shadows grow larger and longer, and move in unusual ways, often mocking the thing from which they came.

If Baba Yanoga dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d10 days.
