Description
Cousins to the great dragons, gem wyverns have two scaly legs, leathery wings, and a sinewy tail topped with a gem club that can kill a creature in seconds. They also have gems that protrude from their face, neck, and back down their spines that collect energy throughout the day and glow at night. Gem wyverns have a club like tail that bursts with energy based upon the type of gem that grow down their back.
Unlike their wyvern cousins, gem wyverns are imbued with mild psionic power from their gem dragon brethren. As a result they can understand common and draconic, but can only speak using telepathy. Gem wyverns are created when wyverns nest within 6 miles of an adult, ancient, or greatwyrm gem dragon. Such creatures have been known to gift adventurers with a gem wyvern egg in lieu of other rewards for completing quests for them, or aiding them in a time of need. While still difficult to raise, gem wyverns are easier to train as mounts as they are less aggressive then their wyvern cousins.
