Traits

Loyal. This creature has advantage on saving throws made to avoid or end the charmed condition as long as it is within 120 ft. of its master.

Battlehardened. The Royal Guard has advantage on rolls made to avoid or end the frightened condition.

Battle Formation. The Royal Guard has been trained to fight in groups of three. If they are grouped up like this, they can move simultaneously and do so on the turn of the member that is highest in the initiative order. While grouped up, they gain a +2 bonus to their AC, their movement is halved and they can not use the Dash or Disengage action.

Actions

Multiattack. Captain Eiichiro makes two Nodachi attacks or two Longbow attacks.

Nodachi. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing  damage. Damage dealt by this weapon is treated as magical.

Longbow. RangedWeapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 150/600 ft., 1 target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage.

Bonus Actions

War Cry (3/Day). Every hostile creature within 15 ft. of Captain Eiichiro must succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC 11) or suffer from disadvantage to their next attack roll made against him for 1 minute.

Reactions

Interception. When a creature the Royal Guard can see hits a target, other than it, within 5 feet of it with an attack, it can use its reaction to reduce the damage the target takes by 1d10 + 2 (to a minimum of 0 damage). The Royal Guard must be wielding a shield or a simple or martial weapon to use this reaction.

Description

Eiichiro Kuro has been the captain of the Royal Guard for over 20 years. He is steadfast in his ways and respects only authority. As captain he has to be an example for his soldiers, as such his complete lack of mercy when dealing with criminals or intruders has become well known to the people of Ashina.

Castle Keeper. Years of experience and being close to Lord Yamamura have given Captain Eiichiro more than enough information about the castle to defend it effortlessly. Be it a siege, assassins or angry townsfolk, nothing will take Oniwa Castle as long as he draws breath. In addition, he might have learned one or two secrets about the castle that even its Lord doesn't know.

Loyal to the End. Captain Eiichiro comes from a time when loyalty meant something. He will be protector and servant to the Yamamura familiy until he draws his final breath. Even if his master's motives should be revealed to be vain and dishonorable, he will not leave his master's side. In his mind, being a traitor is the greatest shame of all.
