Description

The odor of sulfur and pumice surrounds a red dragon, whose swept-back horns and spinal frill define its silhouette. Its beaked snout vents smoke at all times, and its eyes dance with flame when it is angry. This particular dragon is smaller than most, due to its preference for stealth. These dragons are red, or more often dusty orange to blend in to the rocks around them. They have smaller wings than normal, in order to fit round tight corners in their mountainous territory. They make their home in volcanoes, keeping their scales warm in the heat. They are territorial, often getting into scraps with others around. If properly trained, they can make a great pet, though their scorching breath is a bit of a problem for novice adventurers. They have a strange habit of imprinting on a person, much like some birds, where they are compelled to hang around the person they saw first. also strange is their ability to speak common, picked up at a young age. They mimic, like parrots, the words they hear around them, picking up even accent and voice afflictions. Once these words are learned and that particular phase has ended, they keep the voice and accent but still pick up new words from others. Most of them do not mimic people to communicate but learn common as to play tricks on passing travellers. While they are afraid of most people, they like to play jokes on them, making the sound of falling rocks or a passing owlbear to scare mountain-goers.
