Traits

Shapechanger. The aranea can use its action to polymorph into a spider-humanoid hybrid or into a humanoid, or back into its true form, which is a Large Spider about the size of a human. Its statistics, other than its AC, are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It does not revert to its true form if it dies.

Keen Eyes. The aranea has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Spider Climb. The aranea can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Web Sense. While in contact with a web, the aranea knows the exact location of any other creature in contact with the same web.

Web Walker. The aranea ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing.

Spellcasting. The aranea is a 3rd-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13, +5 to hit with spell attacks). The aranea has the following sorcerer spells prepared:

Cantrips (at will): Infestation, poison spray, minor illusion, lightning lure

1st level (4 slots): mage armorsleep

2nd level (2 slots): web, blur

Actions

Multiattack. (Humanoid or Hybrid Form Only). The aranea makes two attacks: two with its War Pick (humanoid form) or one with its bite and one with its claws (hybrid form).

Bite (Spider or Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6(1d8 + 2) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, taking 9 (2d8) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If the poison damage reduces the target to 0 hit points, the target is stable but poisoned for 1 hour, even after regaining hit points, and is paralyzed while poisoned in this way. If the target is a humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with aranea lycanthropy.

Claws. (Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 7 (2d4 + 2) slashing damage.

War Pick (Humanoid Form Only). Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage\

Web (Recharge 5–6). Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 30/60 ft., one creature. Hit: The target is restrained by webbing. As an action, the restrained target can make a DC 12 Strength check, bursting the webbing on a success. The webbing can also be attacked and destroyed (AC 10; hp 5; vulnerability to fire damage; immunity to bludgeoning, poison, and psychic damage).

Description

An Aranea is a strange creature that is technically classified in the same subspecies as other lycanthropes like Werewolves, Tigers, bears, boars, and rats, unlike those, natural Aranea are Large Monstrous Spiders that can take on a Humanoid form and a Hybrid form. In times of dire need for a queen, or new mates, Aranea will develop the ability to create more of it's kind with its cursed bite.
