Traits

Legendary Resistance (3/day). If the Alpha Shadhavar fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. The Shadhavar has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Trampling Charge.  If the Shadhavar moves at least 20 ft. straight toward a target and then hits it with a horn bash attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 9 (2d8) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 20  Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the Shadhavar can make one attack with its hooves against it as a bonus action.

Sure-Footed.  The Shadhavar has advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws made against effects that would knock it prone.

Resonant Burst.  If the Alpha Shadhavar is hit by a Shadhavar dissonant burst it may use its reaction to use its own dissonant burst regardless of recharge. This amplified dissonant burst does an extra Xd8 (X = Shadhavar within 30ft) Thunder damage, the saving throw is made at disadvantage, and the confusion effect lasts an extra 1d4 rounds. This feature cannot be used again until the next dusk.

Actions

Multiattack. The Alpha Shadhavar makes three attacks: two with its hooves and one with its horn bash.

Horn Bash. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 32 (4d12 + 6) bludgeoning damage plus 10 (4d4) thunder damage.

Hooves. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 24 (4d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage.

Dissonant Burst (Recharge 5-6).  The Alpha Shadhavar generates a thunderous blast from its horn. Each creature in a 30-foot radius originating from the Shadhavar takes 8d10 Thunder damage and must succeed on a DC 19  Wisdom saving throw or become confused for 1d4+2 rounds. A creature that succeeds this save is immune to the confusion effects of the Shadhavar’s dissonant burst for the next 24 hours. Shadhavar are immune to the confusion effects of this ability.

Description

Shadhavar are often mistaken, at a distance, for a relative of the unicorn due to their large size and singular horn. Shadhavar originate from the Feywild where they typically live atop the shifting peaks. They have a thick coat of hair that can be used to make fine clothes for cold protection, a large hollow horn on their forehead that can be used to produce sounds, and eyes that rapidly change colour much like the explosive colours above the shifting peaks.

Although revered as majestic beasts within the Feywild, when a herd unknowingly crosses into the material plane they can wreak havoc on the ecosystem and are considered pests.

Shadhavar live in herds with a single Alpha. While they are brilliant climbers, occasionally a Shadhavar has been known to slip or fall. In the unlikely event that a Shadhavar falls the herd will instinctively follow their companion, resulting in a stampede. A stampede of Shadhavar can run for miles without stopping and trample anything in their path.
