False Appearance. While the Arcane Eater remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary fungus.
Mystic Regeneration. At the end of a turn where the Arcane Eater took damage from a spell, it regains the health it lost to any spell this turn.
Magical Magnetism. As an action, the Eater can cause any 1st level spell or cantrip cast within 30 feet of it to be forced to target it instead of the spells intended target. The damage dealt to the Eater by spells affected by this ability is halved.
Devour Magic. If the plant is targeted with a 1st level spell or cantrip, it can use its reaction to consume the magic used in the casting. The spell does not fail and is not wasted, and the plant is struck by it. If the spell cast at it was thorn whip, it attempts to eat the entire vine, pulling the caster to the Eater's position.
Description
The strange magical energies which suffuse the world have caused the growth of strange life. A fungus which often grows near ley lines or in ruins where the arcane dwells, Arcane Eaters are indistinguishable from regular fungus, but conceal tiny mouth-like orifices they use to funnel magic into themselves. Crafty druids and Merfolk have been known to cultivate these fungus in areas they often do combat in, for their thorn whip spells are like pasta noodles to the fungus, who draw them in, carrying the caster to the spot where the fungus is growing.
