Paradoxical Existence. At the DM's discretion, overuse of a high-level spell, counterspelling of a Counterspell, or killing of too many elementals in an area will cause an Argus to manifest. If the Argus moves into an antimagic field, the Argus has found and eliminated whatever originally caused an imbalance, or if balance is otherwise restored the Argus will promptly demanifest, leaving no trace that it ever existed to begin with.
Eliminate the Source. If an Argus manifests due to any form of magic use, it will always know the exact location of who or what caused it to form.
Spell Malfunction. If a creature attempts to counterspell an attack from an Argus, roll a d100 against the Wild Magic effect table.
Hovering Form. The Argus is always considered to be flying for the purposes of spell- or terrain-related effects. If a spell that would knock flying creatures to the ground were to affect an Argus, the effect applies and the Argus is stunned for 1d4 turns.
Chaos Orb. The Argus launches a ball of condensed magical energy, which explodes on contact with any surface or creature. This explosion has a range of 10 feet, and deals 5d6 (28) damage to any creature caught in the blast, or half as much if a creature succeeds a Dexterity (DC 15) saving throw. If the explosion does not impact a creature, roll a d100 against the Wild Magic effect table. This attack counts as a spell for the purposes of items and other spell's effects.
Description
An Argus is a being of paradoxical existence, as they only form when the flow of magical and conceptual energy in an area is so far out of balance that no elementals can properly manifest. This massive imbalance of energy, primarily caused by overuse of powerful spells or the killing of too many naturally-formed elementals, can result in a whirlpool or vacuum of energy and magic being blended together into an amalgam of pure power, which then manifests physically and proceeds to wreak havoc upon who or whatever is responsible for causing the imbalance, fizzling into nothing once balance is restored and the energy used to form it is able to separate and settle into a more natural state.
An Argus's body is primarily composed of a dull green, almost snake like body, with its head containing a set of five glowing purple eyes and a large mouth with two rows of large, razor-sharp teeth. The main body of an Argus is also accompanied by five to seven small arms that end in three fingered hands tipped with sharp claws. These arms are not connected to the actual body of the Argus, but instead orbit around it in differing directions. Like most elementals, an Argus is able to naturally hover several feet above the ground, and is able to effectively fly as a result.
However, if a magic user is able to manipulate the flow of energy in the right way, they may be able to channel that energy in a similar way and form the magical equivalent of a gravity well, which can an Argus to manifest. An Argus formed in this way is not immediately hostile to most creatures, and will instead obey and accompany the one who summoned it for as long as the summoner can keep it stable. An artificially created Argus usually only remains for a few minutes at most because of the concentration required to maintain one, but is a devastating minion as a result of the magical orbs it is able to fire from it's mouth. These orbs of crackling green energy are charged with magic mixed in a way that is effectively anathema to the natural order of reality itself, meaning that even a glancing blow or contact with other spells can result in any number of devastating effects, such as setting an object or person on fire, knocking something away with extreme force, or even sending whatever is hit to another plane of existence entirely.
