Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage. If a tiny or smaller creature is reduced to 0 hp by this attack, the bagholder may Swallow Whole targeting that creature as a bonus action
Eye Rays. The bagholder shoots one or two of the following magical eye rays at one or two creatures it can see within 90 feet of it. It can use each ray only once on a turn.
- Dazing Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed until the start of the bagholder's next turn. While the target is charmed in this way, its speed is halved, and it has disadvantage on attack rolls.
- Frost Ray. The targeted creature must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or take 7 (2d6 cold) cold damage
- Light Ray. The bagholder can illuminate an area up to 60 feet away with a beam of light. This beam of light provides dim light in a 10-foot radius at the targeted location.
- Telekentic Ray. The bagholder can move an object weighing 10 pounds or less that isn’t being worn or carried up to 30 feet in any direction. The bagholder can also exert fine control on objects with this ray, such as manipulating a simple tool or opening a container.
Swallow Whole. The bagholder swallows whole an unattended object or unconscious creature that can fit entirely within its Bottomless Maw. The creature or object is transported unharmed into the extradimensional space within the bagholder.
Regurgitate. The bagholder retrieves an object or creature it has stored in its Bottomless Maw. The bagholder can immediately use a bonus action to active its Telekinetic Ray to grasp an object retrieved this way, otherwise the object or creature appears just outside of the bagholder's mouth and will likely fall to the ground beneath the bagholder.
Description
A bagholder is a bizarre variant of a beholder. It resembles a tiny beholder, its floating spherical body only 8 inches wide with single great eye, set within four eyestalks that shoot forth magic rays. The bagholder looks similar to a gazer with an oversized mouth. The bagholder can unhinge its jaw allowing it swallow items nearly two feet across. In addition, the bagholder houses an extradimensional space similar to a Bag of Holding to which its mouth is the entrance. These strange creatures seems to exist for the sole purpose of carrying another creatures items and might be the result of a mad wizard or insane beholder.
Bottomless Maw. The interior space of a bagholder is roughly 2 feet in diameter at the mouth and 4 feet deep. The bagholder can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. If the bagholder's weight limit is exceeded the bagholder's natural buoyancy no longer functions and the beholder sinks to the ground and its speed is reduced to 0. The bagholder can use Swallow Whole and Regurtitate abilties to place or retreive objects and creatures from its Bottomless Maw. Another creature can also use an action to do the same. A breathing creature inside the bag can survive up 1 minute, after which time it begins to suffocate.
Extradimensional Nature. If the bagholder enters the extradimensional space created by a handy haversack, portable hole, or similar item (or such an item is placed within a bagholder) both the bagholder and the item are instantly destroyed and a gate to the Astral Plane is opened. The gate originates where the one item was placed inside the other. Any creature within 10 feet of the gate is sucked through it to a random location on the Astral Plane. The gate then closes. The gate is one-way only and can't be reopened.
Disturbing Pet. Bagholders can be trained to follow simple commands similar to a dog. A bagholder might be trained to use its eye rays on command or even to regurgitate particular items from its Bottomless Maw. Trained bagholders are sought after by some adventures, however their stubborn and evil nature makes them less than ideal for many. A bagholder might not follow a command if it is feeling lazy, distracted, or just plain mean.
Treasured Death. When a bagholder dies its body resembles a Bag of Holding and can be treated as such.
