Shapechanger. The Vaengrocht can use its action to polymorph into a humanoid that it or it's master has seen before, or back into its true form. Its statistics are the same in each form, except for the speed changes noted. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Devil's Sight. Magical darkness doesn't impede the Vaengrocht's darkvision.
Magic Resistance. The Vaengrocht has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Out Of Sight. While the Vaengrocht is tiny, it has advantage on Stealth checks.
Insectoid. The Vaengrocht is not affected by fall damage.
Powerful Legs. The Vaengrocht can jump 15ft long and 20ft high while tiny.
Concentrate. The Vaengrocht can concentrate on a spell for their master. It must make CON Saving Throws when it is hit to maintain concentration, however this means their master is not required to concentrate or make saves. Concentration requires all of the Vaengrocht's focus, as such it cannot doing anything else until it has stopped concentrating.
Connection with the Master. Through the power of Vaati, this familiar can be utilised in the following ways as long as they are within 800ft: The Vaengrocht's master can project their voice through it as if they were speaking and see through its eyes with the full capabilities of its vision and perception. The master can also cast all of their spells that require touch through the Vaengrocht.
In addition, the Vaengrocht and its master have a constant telepathic connection and will respond to commands on an instinctual level as long as they are on the same plane of existence.
Multiattack. The Vaengrocht can use two abilities on its turn. The abilities may not be the same.
Sting. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (3d4 + 8) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) poison damage on a failed save and gain poisoned condition, or half as much damage on a successful one and is not poisoned.
Tendrils of Vaati. The Vaengrocht invokes the power of Vaati, the Dark Hunger. Tendrils of dark energy erupt from the Vaengrocht and batter all creatures within 10 feet of it. Each creature in that area must make a Strength saving throw DC15. On a failed save, a target takes 3d6 necrotic damage and can’t take reactions until its next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage, but suffers no other effect.
Hex of Vaati. The Vaengrocht casts the Hex spell on a target at its base level. The following effects are additional to the regular spell: The Hex's damage stacks with the Vaengrocht's master's Hex, but in this case the target only suffers one saving throw disadvantage between the two. The Hex's necrotic damage bonus is only activated by the Vaengrocht's master's attacks. If the master uses their bonus action to transfer Hex to another target, the Vaengrocht's Hex will also transfer.
Corruption of Vaati. The ground in a 20-foot radius centered on the Vaengrocht twists and sprouts hard spikes and thorns that reach 10 feet in the air. The area becomes difficult terrain for the duration. When a creature other than the Vaengrocht or its master moves into or within the area, it takes 2d4 piercing damage for every 5 feet it travels.
When a creature other than the Vaengrocht or its master starts its turn in the area, they must make a WIS save DC15. On a failed save they are lost in the thorny corruption and must roll a d4 to determine their direction, where 1 is up, 2 is right, 3 is down and 4 is left. If they choose to change directions after rolling, they must roll again to determine a new direction.
Embrace of Vaati. The Vaengrocht sacrifices some of its health to mend another creature’s injuries. It takes 5d8 necrotic damage, and one creature of its choice that it or its master can see regains a number of hit points equal to twice the necrotic damage it takes.
Identify. The Vaengrocht chooses one object that it must touch throughout the casting of the spell. If it is a magic item or some other magic-imbued object, the Vaengrocht and its master learn its properties and how to use them, whether it requires attunement to use, and how many charges it has, if any. The Vaengrocht and its master learn whether any spells are affecting the item and what they are. If the item was created by a spell, the Vaengrocht and its master learn which spell created it.
If the Vaengrocht instead touches a creature throughout the casting, the Vaengrocht and its master learn what spells, if any, are currently affecting it.
Misty Step. Briefly surrounded by silvery mist, the Vaengrocht teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that it can see.
Grow. The Vaengrocht's size changes from tiny to large and Strength increases to 17. The creature's movement speed, climbing speed and burrow speed is doubled and its jumping distance is tripled. It can carry up to five creatures on its back this way. This effect lasts until cancelled for a free action.
Expel Shadows The Vaengrocht casts the Darkness spell centered on itself. The Darkness does not move with the creature and it does not require concentration. The darkness reeks a foul odour.
Return. The Vaengrocht immediately vanishes and appears on or next to their master, as long as they are on the same plane of existence.
