Aberrant Ground. The ground in a 10-foot radius around the mouther is doughlike difficult terrain. Each creature that starts its turn in that area must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or have its speed reduced to 0 until the start of its next turn.
Gibbering. The Librarian babbles incoherently while it isn’t incapacitated. Each creature that starts its turn within 50 feet of the mouther and can hear the gibbering must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the creature can’t take reactions until the start of its next turn and rolls a d8 to determine what it does during its turn. On a 1 to 4, the creature does nothing. On a 5 or 6, the creature takes no action or bonus action and uses all its movement to move in a randomly determined direction. On a 7 or 8, the creature makes a melee attack against a randomly determined creature within its reach or does nothing if it can’t make such an attack.
Multiattack. The Librarian makes one bite or swallow attack and, if it can, uses its Blinding Spittle.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 17 (5d6) piercing damage. If the target is Medium or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 13). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained.
Swallow. The Librarian makes one bite attack against a Medium or smaller target it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target is swallowed, and the grapple ends. The swallowed target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the Librarian, and it takes (1d10) acid damage at the start of each of the Librarian's turns. The Librarian can have only one target swallowed at a time. If the Librarian dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse using half of its movement, exiting prone.
Blinding Spittle (Recharge 5–6). The Librarian spits a revolting glob at a point it can see within 15 feet of it. The glob explodes in a spray of sticky mucous on impact. Each creature within 5 feet of the splash must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or be blinded until the end of the mouther’s next turn.
Description
Long ago, the Library of Durakurn was abandoned by the mountain dwarves for unknown reasons. Undeterred, one remained during the great exodus; Azmut, the simple dwarven scholar and High Librarian. Refusing to leave his precious knowledge to rot and decay, he dug through the shelves, through the forbidden books, searching for a way to protect his pages...at any cost.
Millennia passed, the dwarves moved on, and the Library passed into obscurity and legend.
Some say, In those dark, unlit halls, one dwarf persists. He sulks through the twisted rows of dilapidated stone shelves, forever on the look out for a disrespectful visitor.
But that's all just a story, right?
